Spread too thin

You’ve heard that phrase, right? Well, that’s about the only way you’ll find ME and THIN in the same context! My interests are wide and varied…. Besides writing, I like crafts: knitting, crochet, sewing, etc…I mostly dabble; and when I hit a snag, it’s common for me to set that project aside, and often I’ll pick up a new one to start. Or, I’ll have an idea for a project for a specific event, so in-progress works take a backseat for a while. Or a decade.

And then there’s friends. There are many that I’ve connected with, but only so many that I can keep up with.

Oh, yeah, so crafts, reading, birding/nature walks, line dancing. Writing. Music, how can I forget music? I play keys on my church’s worship team. I like to sing. On top of that, I’m taking care of our home, cooking, cleaning, laundry…and these jobs are never ‘done’.

Sitting here typing this out, I overhear discussion from the next table. “I couldn’t find where the Bible says, “put your feet up, take it easy”.  Guess I’m not the only one feeling…stretched.

This morning I was marvelling at God, the Creator of the whole universe. How many right now, all over the world, are bending His ear at this exact same moment. Tens of thousands? Millions, maybe? And to think, He doesn’t miss a thing. He’s never experiencing the angst of trying to keep all the plates spinning that seems to be part of my daily existence. He hears it all. He is always available to me. Anytime I’m waiting on Him, waiting for Him to get back to me, it is never because He’s busy elsewhere, or He missed my call or forgot to get back to me. When He keeps me waiting, it is always, always for my good. I wish my friends could say the same about me, but sometimes I’m distracted or ‘too busy’. And sometimes I forget. Not my God. He has plenty to go around. As I sit here, at one of the coveted upper-level tables of a popular coffee shop, I think how we sometimes want to hoard or guard our favorite things. If everyone I know discovers this great little place, I’ll never find an empty table sgain! We’ll, it’s not that way with God. Share Him freely! Tell everyone you know! He has the bandwidth to keep up with as many of us as would follow Him!

One more thought I want to share before I go– as much as I can feel spread thin by all the things I want to do, I am completely convinced that I have everything I need to do just exactly everything that God has in mind for me to do. He’s not expecting me to give more than I have to give. He has the strength, the wisdom, anything and everything I need to do what He has for me to do. A key to this is, I have to look to Him for my direction. The woman at the neighboring table referred to the scripture that says, “My yolk is easy, and My burden is light”. This light and easy path includes being yoked up to Jesus. He’s the bigger, stronger, more experienced partner in this analogy. That means He sets the pace AND the direction.

Lord, guide my steps today. Help me not to strain against the yoke, but simply to keep in step with You. You know the plans You have for this day, and I need the strength and wisdom that only You can provide. Your desire is not for me to be overwhelmed and exhausted, but for me to walk in step with Your plan. You are never overwhelmed by my requests, or too busy to listen to my heart. Help me to have the same heart towards You–never too busy to listen to Your heart, never too tired to do what You are asking of me. I love You, Lord.
